It is used in abrasive objects and processes such as water jet cutting, sandpaper, whetstone, grip tape and sand blasting. High endurance applications consist of car brakes, composite armor, car clutches and bullet proof vests. It is used as a detector in early radios, semiconductor within electronics and for LEDs. It is utilized in high temperature operations such as heat treating and melting of metals, being used as a substrate in the production of graphene, ignition within gas heaters, glass casting, supporting material within furnaces and kilns, and the productions of ceramics, float glass and electronic components. It is used in metallurgical processes as an deoxidizer.  It is used to develop light weight mirrors used within aerospace industry. The mirrors are applied to advanced telescopes and satellites for imaging and  laser targeting.
