Chromium is widely used in optical coating materials as an absorbing and masking metal for visible and infrared optical components.1,2 In evaporation and sputter deposition, chromium serves as a stable thin-film material and as an adhesion promoting layer in multilayer optical stacks.2,3 As a refractory metal, chromium exhibits its high thermal stability and oxidation resistance, supporting its use in high temperature coatings and chromium containing compound systems.4 It is also used in advanced manufacturing, primarily as an alloying or coating element in additive manufacturing to enhance wear resistance and surface performance.5
